about Long Island night light radio
Meet the Owner- Lou Megna
Hey, I am Lou, owner/ operator of LINL Radio, which I created in late February of 2024. This creation took place due to a combination of intense impulse and unusual opportunity. For more than the entire year prior to that winter, I was home from work on a health-related leave. Obviously, I had an unusual amount of time on my hands, and I needed to find a productive and healthy non-taxing project to constructively use the time until I returned to work. But it wasn't just having time on my hands that made LINL Radio come about- the time on my hands was coupled with a powerful impulse- maybe compulsion is a better word- to create something like LINL Radio. In the year or so leading up to the pandemic in 2020, my friends Ken, Ray and myself had a little podcast series called Overnight Radio. I really enjoyed prepping for and facilitating the few episodes we recorded. It wasn't our fault it was so few- the series was intended to be based on Long Island culture, and when the lockdown was enforced, there WAS no more culture, not for a long while. So prior to February of 2024, there was talk of bringing the podcast back, which I was eager to do. But I can still picture myself sitting on the couch the night that impulse- that command- hit me: Yes, I want to do a podcast, but I want that podcast to air on MY OWN RADIO STATION.
A year and-a half later, here LINL is with a music library of nearly 900 songs created by nearly 400 artists and bands from all over the world. Yes, there is a new podcast series, but there is also an interview series with over 20 segments, and more coming; there are live broadcasts periodically; there are more than a few managers, agents, distributors and record labels sending me music. And the vision just gets clearer and larger every day, and of course that impulse, compulsion, command, whatever it was- fuels the work that's required to make it real.
Where is all this headed? I'm sure I have absolutely no idea. But I am enjoying what I'm doing, and in the process I'm having positive interactions with talented folks all over the globe, so it's all good. And I'm healthy and working my day job again- with LINL Radio taking at least a good amount of the credit for that.
